Preparing the CCVP/CCIE Voice Lab environment.

I'd like to start this blog by note about, from my point of view, the one of the important components extremely needed for successful preparation for the voice track - Lab Environment.

If you are preparing to the CVOICE Exam (v6/v8) it would be great if you have couple of Cisco ISR with PVDM2 module(s) and some Cisco IP Phones 79xx. If you are lucky, you also have several VWIC(2)-(X)MFT-T1/E1 modules, and maybe some FXO/FXS modules to connect analog devices.

If the above is not available, I strongly recommend you to practice with GNS3, which can emulate Cisco VoIP Router (but without DSP, T1/E1 and FXS/FXO), let say ISR 2801. In conjunction with Cisco IP Communicator (CIPC) you can study not all but many important topics.

If you are preparing to take the CIPT1/2 Exams (v6/v8) you just need to practice with CUCM. It can be done with free VMware products, such as VMware Server 2 or VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi).
